Well after being away from the building for a while I'm back at it and there are actually a few updates here. Flight instruction has kept me in the air and I haven't been able to work on the RV like I want to. Sometimes a little time off is a good thing and now that is so hot I'm back in the shop. Check out the fourth step for latest updates.

The airplane has unveiled for us the true face of the earth.

The RV that got me hooked.  Based in Sumter, SC.  A beautiful example of a slow build kit powered by a 180hp Lycoming with a Hartzell CS prop. A dream to fly!!

I've read this in several places and thought it appropriate for here. It's not mine so I don't take credit for the very well said quote!!

"Superior pilots use their superior knowledge to keep them away from situations that will require their superior flight skills "

Cargo plane crashes at my home field, OGB

In July, 2002 I made a big decision to do something that I have visited in my mind off and on for several years. I had always thought, there is no way you can do this up until now. This decision came with a lot of thought and was not without it's share of concerns but if I were to ever make it happen, this was the time in my life to make a start.

Hopefully on this site I will be able to share with you a dream coming true for me. The decision I made was to build an RV-8 experimental airplane on my own. I will keep this site updated with pictures as I go through the construction of the RV so it will constantly be under construction for the next few years. I expect this project to take between 3 and 4 years to complete so keep coming back and see what is growing toward having it's own wings.

I chose the Vans Aircraft RV-8 because of the performance that it gave and the all around appearance of the plane. With performance figures showing between 300 and 600 feet needed for takeoff, it would allow me to keep the plane at home and get in and out of the property I have. Climb performance shows between 1600 and 2200 feet per minute with speeds in excess of 200 mph. Aerobatic capability is also a part built into the RV-8 so I fully intend on putting inverted fuel and oil systems on the plane. Starting to sound like fun now huh!?!?! But the best part is yet to come! With the front to back tandem seating, it gives the "fighter" look and feel which is something that grabbed me from the start. Want to check out all the details of this plane, visit Van's Aircraft and see for yourself.
